Camel Trekking 3 Nights in Erg Chebbi Dunes
This trip begins after a relaxed lunch (depending on when you arrive). Our camels will be packed with food, blankets and all necessary things we need for our trip. This trek will start right into the desert. The route we take will lead us to a small oasis right in the middle of the dunes. This is where we will spend the night under starts in nomad tent.
It will be really magical night when the sky is clear and covered by stars and they shine with intensity. During the first night we will have a wonderful dinner around a campfire.
In the morning, after breakfast we will head around 2 hours to reach our next destination. We stop for lunch next to a desert tree ‘Tamarisk’ for about 1.5 hrs. In the shadow of this tree, we will have tasty desert lunch and then we head towards the home of a Nomadic family with whom you will spend your second night and share some time with this Nomad family. The next day after our breakfast with the Berbers we will head towards another small oasis in the middle of the desert.
Before reaching the camp we will stop on the way for desert lunch. Your last (third) night will be spent with a Berber nomad family living in this oasis. During dinner we will have a fantastic drum music party under stars in the desert. Then after breakfast we travel back to the village of Merzouga or to your riad/hotel/auberge.
Program
8 Days from Marrakech Sahara Desert Tour
Day 1: Marrakech – Taliouine
We’ll leave Marrakech early and journey to Taliouine. Along the way we will visit the Berber village of Asni, the valley of Ouirgane, the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi-n-Test (2200 meters). Once in Taliouine, you can visit the village and enjoy the evening. Overnight at hotel.
Day 2: Taliouine – Cheguagua
Today we make a morning departure for Foum Zguid where we’ll have lunch, stopping along the way in Taznakhte. In the afternoon we reach Cheguagua, where you can visit the nomads living in tents, and then criss the dry lake of iriqui and desert plateau full of acacias. Late afternoon arrival to Cheguagua sand dunes to enjoy the sunset. In this location we’ll have dinner and stay overnight in tents.
Day 3: Cheguagua – Zagora
First wake up early to watch the beautiful sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we’ll travel to M’hamid by crossing the sacred Um Lâalag Oasis. Take lunch at M’hamid, and then head to Tagounite, Tamegroute, where you will have the opportunity to visit an old Koranic library, local pottery makers and an undergroundKasbah in Zaouia. From here we continue on to Zagora for dinner and overnight at a hotel.
Day 4: Zagora – Merzouga
After breakfast, we’ll journey through the Draa Valley to Tansikht and N’kob, passing through beautiful Saharan landscapes and Berber villages. Lunch is at Alnif, then we’re off to the impressive dunes of Merzouga. Along the way we’ll visit Rissani, the cradle of the Alaoui dynasty. Arrive late afternoon in Merzouga where you can relax before dinner and then stay overnight at the inn.
Day 5: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
After breakfast, we will take you on a grand tour through the Saharan Erg Chebbi dunes by 4WD vehicle. You’ll see the two oasis of Merzouga, KHAMLIA village (village of the blacks), the desert plateau, the oasis TISSARDMINE, and more! You’ll be back at the inn by mid-afternoon for the start of your camel caravan to experience the magic of the sunset in the dunes. After two hours ride by camel, you’ll arrive at your wild oasis where you’ll stay for the night. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 6: Erg Chebbi – Tinghir
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. After sunrise you’ll travel by camel back to the start of the dunes. After breakfast, we’ll leave Merzouga and head to the vast palm grove of Tafilalet then continue toward the Ziz valley. You can enjoy local cuisine for lunch in the heart of the valley. In the afternoon, we reach Tinghir via Goulmima and the palm grove of Tinjdad. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 7: Tinghir – Ouarzazate
In the morning you will head into the mountains to explore the Todra Gorge and Dades Gorge. After lunch in the gorge, we take a trail through the gorgeous Valley of Roses that leads to the Capital of Roses Kalaa M’gouna. From here we’ll see the palm grove of Skoura and the Kasbah of Amredhyle, and then continue on to Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 8: Ouarzazate – Marrakech
After breakfast, you’ll see the sites of Ouarzazate including the Kasbah of Taourirt and the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From here we travel into the mountain pass towards Marrakech, stopping to visit the Kasbah of Telouet, the former residence of the Pasha Glaoui, one of the most influential families in the region. Lunch will be taken at a local cafe along the way. We’ll reach Marrakech via the Col du Tizi’N’Tichka (highest point: 2260m altitude). We will drop you at your desired location in Marrakech.
